The 6th Particle
Physics Workshop is organized by NCP in collaboration with
European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Geneva,
Switzerland. The workshop will particularly focus on the Large
Hadron Collider. The speakers are generally very active and
internationally renowned researchers in particle physics. Some
of the speakers who were invited for the past workshops
comprised luminaries like G. Altarelli, J. Ellis, M. Mangano, J.
Schukraft, D. Denegri, G. Rolandi, A. Ali, N. Ellis, and R.
Cashmorw.
Speakers invited
from abroad would give 3 to 4 lectures of one hour duration
each, starting with introduction to the subject during the first
lecture and gradually move on to a current research topic in
particle physics. All lectures are scheduled in the morning with
discussions followed in the afternoon. Some time is also
reserved in the afternoons for seminars by the students and as
well as by the faculty. The workshop provides a forum for Ph.D.
students to present their topic of research in afternoon
seminars where their research work can be discussed by the
leading experts in the field.
Workshop's Objective
The objective of
this workshop is to give exposure to the participants on the
current research areas in particle physics around the world. The
workshop would be useful for the students pursuing their Ph.D.
studies in particle physics or related fields. The faculty and
young researchers involved in particle physics research at
various Pakistani universities would also be benefited from this
workshop.
Salient areas to be covered
in the workshop
In the 6th
Particle Physics Workshop, NCP would cover the following areas
in high-energy physics:
Physics at
LHC
Electroweak
Physics
CP
Violation, Rare Decays and CKM
Physics
Beyond Standard Model
Heavy Ion
Physics, Quark-Gluon Plasma
Grid based
Physics Analysis in HEP
R&D for
Future Detectors and Accelerators
Limited Participation from
Outside Islamabad
The number of
participants is limited to a small number of 25 from outside
Islamabad. The limited participation allows close contact and
productive discussions between the speakers and the
participants.
Provision of Lectures’ Text
All the speakers
are requested to provide the text of their lectures or any
supplementary material to NCP well in advance so that the same
can be distributed among the participants before the workshop.
