The Experimental High Energy Physics (EHEP) group is actively involved in the research activities, particularly related to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) under construction at CERN , Switzerland . The EHEP group comprises of
one post doctoral fellow, three
Ph. D. students and three
M. Phil students. The group is headed by Prof. Hafeez R. Hoorani.
There are two areas in which this group is working:
Testing and quality assurance of Resistive Plate Chambers (RPC)
produced for
Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector
The group is working on the studies of top quark physics at LHC, both on single top and top pair production are studied in detail. Using decay of single top, the measurement of CKM matrix element V tb can be made as well as the decay width of top quark can be determined. Study of decay of top pairs at LHC is focused on the semi-leptonic decays where one can measure the mass of the top quark. The group is involved in the study of charged Higgs at CMS and background in the semi-leptonic channel of top pair decay.
Another main activity of the group is the R&D, assembly and testing of Resistive Plate Chambers. For testing the Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) Cosmic Ray Muon Telescope is operating. Research scholars are working on the data analysis of the Cosmic Ray Muon Telescope.
