27 - 28 October, 2016

Introduction

A two-day “International workshop on Ion Beam Applications” is being organized at the National Centre for Physics (NCP) Islamabad in collaboration with KTH-Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden from 27-28 October 2016. The workshop is planned around the Pelletron Tandem Accelerator facility installed in NCP, which offers research opportunity in vast scientific areas, such as material science; semiconductor industry; nuclear science research; environment and biological sciences; nano-technology etc. In this context, a national user workshop was organized in June 2016. The present event is the continuation in a series and is likely to continue in coming years.

Primarily the focus of international workshop on Ion Beam Applications is to raise awareness among young scientists, researchers and engineers both from academia and Industry to make it possible for them to interact with international experts in the field of ion beams. Moreover, this platform will also enhance the ability and expertise of the attendees in using ion beams to address their specific scientific problems. Following topics will be addressed in the workshop.

Topics

  • Ion beam applications in semiconductors
  • Ion implantation
  • Ion beam analysis
  • Detection and monitoring of trace elements in sample matrix (PIXE)
  • Analysis of light elements at the verge of detection limit (PIGE)
  • Diverse Industrial application (namely pharmaceutical, biological, food, agricultural and mining industries)
  • Ion beam modification and analysis of thin films for various technological applications
